As a mother, it is normal to worry if your child isn’t eating as much as you think he or she should, prompting you to wonder; Is Cypri Gold Syrup Goof for Babies? It is more disconcerting if you’re a first-time mom, and you have no clue what the right appetite for a baby is, you depend on what others say, and that leads you to worry.

Cypri Gold syrup is safe to use for children, especially from 2 years and above. However, there is no assurance of safety or danger for children that are below 2 years old. Some medical practitioners, due to  the absence of any contraindication as to the effect of the active ingredients in Cypri gold syrup to babies, reckon that babies can take Cypri Gold syrup.

In this article, we will see what Cypri Gold really is; what it is made of, that is the active ingredients and what its primary function is. We will also see the side effects of using Cypri Gold syrup, and consider its safety for babies.

What is Cypri Gold Syrup For?

Cypri Gold is an antihistamine – a medication used to treat the symptoms of allergy – that contains cyproheptadine hydrochloride. It is made to help address symptoms such as sneezing, coughing, and watery eyes, that arose as a result of contact with allergens which triggers the response, in this case, a more than adequate response, from the affected individual’s immune system.

Antihistamines, like Cypri Gold syrup, is also used to treat stomach upsets. Some are also used to treat anxiety and other medical conditions. They are usually available as over-the-counter drugs not considering the nature of the active ingredient and the medical condition they address.

In essence, the primary function of Cypri Gold syrup is to treat allergic reactions exhibited by affected individuals. However, it can make one gain weight by blocking the histamine receptors from sending messages to the brain. Thereby, making a consumer eat more than they normally would. The point is that, the increased appetite that comes with using Cypri Gold Syrup is not the major function of the medication, as a matter of fact, it is a side effect, which some people find beneficial.

How Does Cypri Gold Syrup Increase Appetite?

Cypri Gold is an antihistamine, that is it works against the body chemical, histamine. Histamine is a chemical in the body that is sometimes called the appetite hormone. It is also responsible for relaying messages from the hypothalamus to the brain, and as part of the immune system, responds to allergens.

Cypri Gold, as an antihistamine, works by blocking the production of histamine, thereby causing all its function, including the relay of information to the brain, to stop. It effectively causes metabolism to slow down, meaning an individual who takes Cypri Gold will continuously eat and not feel full till they are uncomfortable or they start to feel pain in their stomach. Also, such individual does not burn as much calories as they usually do.

To make weight gain faster, Cypri Gold may cause the user to feel drowsy, causing them to sleep. For individuals who do not sleep well, this will help their body get better rest, and help them gain weight. All of these side effects of Cypri Gold are what make one gain weight when they use it.

Is Cypri Gold Syrup Safe for Babies?

The term “Baby” may be subject to different interpretations for different individuals. For some people, their child of 10 years is still a baby, while to others, a child that’s about 5 years old is no longer a baby. However, in respect to the use of and safety of use of Cypri Gold Syrup, Babies refer to children that are below 2 years old.

Cypri Gold contains 2 mg of Cyproheptadine hydrochloride in every 5 ml of the syrup. That means there is a total of 80 mg of Cyproheptadine hydrochloride in one bottle of Cypri Gold syrup. Generally, this active ingredient and all antihistamines are not advisable for use in children that are less than 2 years old.

It is also not advised to use any antihistamine during breastfeeding. Not because they will harm the child, but because there is inadequate research on the effect antihistamine has on children of 0 to 2 years old.

There have been concerns about the safety of antihistamines, especially when used for purposes they are not intended for, among infants since the death of four toddlers and infants in Connecticut, United States of America. Their death was attributed to the toxicity of antihistamine.

Different kids react to the same medication differently, therefore, it is important that you seek the opinion of your doctor, not just any doctor, to decide if it is safe for your child to use Cypri Gold Syrup. However, generally, do not use Cypri Gold for children that are less than 2 years old.

    Dosage of Cypri Gold Syrup

The recommended dosage of Cyproheptadine hydrochloride differs from adults to children, and it is usually by body weight. For an adult, the recommended daily dosage should not exceed 0.5mg/kg. for the best dosage for your child, consult a doctor for the safest quantity of the active ingredient your child should ingest to avoid toxicity.

    Side Effects of Cypri Gold

Cypri Gold has many side effects, many of them are the same as any of the other antihistamines. Some of them include drowsiness, dryness in the nose, mouth, or throat, dizziness, constipation, and blurry vision. It is best not to use this medication for the first time when you are heading out.

There are other symptoms that are not so common, but serious, and need a doctor’s attention. They include mood changes, hallucination, difficulty urinating, heart palpitation, and seizures.

    Conclusion

Cypri Gold syrup is a commonly used medication to help children eat more and consequently, gain weight. However, its common use does not confirm its safety for children. To avoid the loss of children or occurrence of serious medical conditions, it is best to consult your medical doctor to ascertain the safety of Cypri Gold syrup for your child.

It belongs to a class of drugs called antihistamines; they are commonly used to treat allergies. However, some of their side effects are beneficial to some people. However, it also has side effects that can be deadly. For this reason, let your doctor decide its safety for use in your child.
