    There are two types of Menstrogen so do not worry when you see results like “Menstrogen Injection” instead of the usual “Menstrogen Tablets”.

    This article will be about Menstrogen injection, its uses, side-effects, and other vital information concerning its usage.

    WHAT IS MENSTROGEN INJECTION?

    Menstrogen injection is a medication that contains Ethinyloestradiol and Progesterone as active ingredients.

    WHAT IS MENSTROGEN INJECTION USED FOR?

    Menstrogen injection is used for the treatment, improvement, and control of the following:

    1. Absence of a menstrual period
    2. Management of menopausal symptoms
    3. Female hypogonadism
    4. Birth control
    5. Recurrent miscarriage
    6. Uterine bleeding and other conditions. 

    Menstrogen may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide above.

    HOW DOES MENSTROGEN INJECTION WORK?

    It works by preventing the release of an egg during the menstrual cycle, and stimulates luteal actions and changes in uterus and vagina.

    WHAT ARE SOME POSSIBLE SIDE-EFFECTS OF MENSTROGEN INJECTION?

    1. Acne
    2. Allergic skin rashes
    3. Amenorrhea
    4. Blood sugar may rise
    5. Breast engorgement
    6. Cough
    7. Diabetes may be precipitated by long-term use of potent agents
    8. Discomfort in breast
    9. Dyspnoea
    10. Edema
    11. Esophageal reflux
    12. Gastrointestinal disturbances
    13. Given in early pregnancy
    14. Headache
    15. Increased appetite
    16. Irregular bleeding or amenorrhea
    17. Irregular vaginal bleeding
    18. Levonorgestrel
    19. Long term use of progestin in hormone replacement therapy may increase the risk of breast cancer
    20. Mental depression
    21. Mood swings may occur
    22. Oedema
    23. Other congenital abnormalities
    24. Progestin can cause masculinization of female fetus
    25. Rise in body temperature
    26. Urticaria
    27. Weight gain or loss

    Before using Menstrogen injection, tell your doctor about your current list of medications, vitamins, herbal supplements you use, allergies, pre-existing diseases, and current health conditions.

    Some health conditions may make you more vulnerable to the side-effects of the drug. Use as directed by your doctor or follow the direction printed on the product insert. The dosage is based on your condition. Inform your doctor if your condition persists or worsens.

    2. Estradiol
    3. Phenytoin
    4. Rifampin

    Menstrogen injection should not be used if you have any of the following conditions:

    1. Undiagnosed vaginal bleeding
    2. Thromboembolic disorders
    3. Pregnancy
    4. Impaired liver functions
    5. Hypersensitivity
    6. History of seizures
    7. Breastfeeding
    8. Breast cancer

    Ethinyloestradiol: Please discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.

    Progesterone: No

    3. Can Menstrogen Injection be used for absence of a menstrual period and management of menopausal symptoms?

    Yes, absence of a menstrual period and management of menopausal symptoms are among the most common reported uses for Menstrogen Injection. Please do not use Menstrogen Injection for absence of a menstrual period and management of menopausal symptoms without consulting first with your doctor.

     4. Is it safe to drive or operate heavy machinery when using this product?

    If you experience drowsiness, dizziness, hypotension or a headache as side-effects when using Menstrogen Injection medicine then it may not be safe to drive a vehicle or operate heavy machinery. One should not drive a vehicle if using the medicine makes you drowsy, dizzy or lowers your blood-pressure extensively. 

     5. Is this medicine or product addictive or habit forming?

    Most medicines don't come with a potential for addiction or abuse. Usually, the government categorizes medicines that can be addictive as controlled substances. Examples include schedule H or X in India and schedule II-V in the US. Please consult the product package to make sure that the medicine does not belong to such special categorizations of medicines. Lastly, do not self-medicate and increase your body's dependence to medicines without the advice of a doctor.

     6. Can I stop using this product immediately or do I have to slowly wean off the use?

    Some medicines need to be tapered or cannot be stopped immediately because of rebound effects. Please consult with your doctor for recommendations specific to your body, health and other medications that you may be using.

    WHAT HAPPENS IF I MISS A DOSE?

    Use it as soon as you notice. 

    If it is close to the time of your next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your dosing schedule. 

    Do not use extra dose to make up for a missed dose. If you are regularly missing doses, try setting an alarm or asking an acquaintance to remind you. 

    If you have missed too many doses recently, consult with your doctor to discuss making possible changes in your dosing schedule to make up for the missed ones.

    STORAGE OF MENSTROGEN INJECTION

    • Store it at room temperature, away from heat and direct light.
