I noticed that so many individual patients have no idea on how to use a waterpik or what is waterpick and their function?

    What is waterpik?

A Waterpik is also called water flosser or an oral irrigator, this device is used for flossing teeth and gums with a jet of water, rather than waxed or unwaxed string flossing. It has so many benefits than conventional floss. Several studies have proven that this tools is effective in removing plaque and reduces gum bleeding, resulting in good overall oral health. Severe gums condition and Poor oral health, such as gingivitis and periodontitis, are associated with other diseases, including Alzheimer’s, arthritis, diabetes, heart disease, and cancer.

Also, America dental association (ADA) reports that patients who have a Waterpick are far more likely to floss their teeth and gums regularly than those who rely on string floss. The head, which delivers the jet of water, can usually be moved through 360° in order to reach any part of the mouth easily.

How to Use a Waterpik® Water Flosser in 6 Simple Steps

    How to use a waterpik

    • Fill the reservoir with warm water and place firmly on the base.

Some individual using this device have claimed that it is faster and easier to use than using string floss, and it requires only one minute per day.

Water flossing is very effective for people with crowns, dental braces or dental implants and periodontal pockets because it can be difficult to reach these areas. In addition, water flossing dental braces and orthodontic appliances are three times more effective as conventional string flossing.

It can clean below the gum line, and studies have proven that it will remove up to 99% of the plaque. It also removes food particles and other debris that string floss or toothbrushes cannot reach.

When compared with conventional floss, water flossers have been shown to be up to 50% more effective at improving gingivitis and gum health. Also, studies as shows that the device is 80% more effective in reducing gingivitis and 70% percent in reducing plaque than using sonic air flosser.

How Water Flossing Can Improve Your Smile & Oral Health

There’s a reason we notice someone’s smile right away; a beautiful smile tells us that this person is friendly, approachable, someone we want to learn more about. Sadly, many of us hide our smiles because our teeth are not as healthy as we would like them to be, and we miss sharing this part of ourselves with the world.

In fact, a recent study revealed that nearly 28% of people don’t like smiling because of their teeth and 42% believe that their smile is unattractive in photos. Flossing regularly with a water flosser is the first step to achieving not just a healthy smile, but a beautiful smile.

What is the difference between water pick and Waterpik?

Water pick is the broad term for an oral irrigator, also called a water flosser. The device is used to flush out debris from the interdental spaces and gaps between the teeth.

On the other hand, you can see the word spelled as 'Waterpik'. This is actually a trademark owned by Water Pik Inc. previously known as Aqua Tec Corp. In 1962, the company was founded in Fort Collins, Colorado by the hydraulic engineer John Mattingly and the dentist Gerald Moyer. In a nutshell, water pick is an oral irrigator and Waterpik is a reserved trademark - Waterpik® producing dental hygiene equipment.
