How to maximise compensation in your injury case

When you suffer an accident it can be an overwhelming time. The pain can be difficult to manage. But on top of that you’ll be worrying about recovery time, rehab and even whether to make a personal injury claim. A claim doesn’t have to be complicated though. Below, we explore some simple ways for you to maximise your compensation during a claim.

    Record everything

You never know when something might be needed as evidence – it’d be incredibly frustrating to throw away something that would later be useful. Make sure that you record everything and store it safely. From dash cam footage to medical records, you should keep on top of your case throughout.

    Speak to a doctor

Visiting a doctor is crucial. Firstly, you’ll most likely need medical advice. Getting yourself on the mend will make any claims easier to manage. Secondly, though, you’ll also need the doctor to provide evidence of your injuries and the implications of these issues. If your back was injured, for instance, a doctor can explain why you’re unable to work for a period of time.

    Act quickly

You may want to put the hassle of an injury claim off, but the sooner you act the better. Negligence cases have a time limit of three years, and your case will be invalid if you wait any longer than this. This may seem like a distant deadline, but when you consider that these cases can last between six and 12 months you realise that urgency is important.

    Monitor your social media presence

Your social media presence is important too. A mistake here could provide evidence against you in a personal injury case. Ensure that there isn’t any evidence of you being active, or anything that contradicts your injuries on social media. Essentially, you need to avoid posting activities that someone with your injury would be avoiding. Partying or exercising could be used against you.

    Contact personal injury solicitors

Personal injury claims can be complex if you don’t have previous experience or legal knowledge. Usually, it’s best to contact experienced personal injury solicitors to handle the case. This will often be taken on a no-win, no-fee basis meaning that you won’t be liable to pay hefty legal fees if you don’t receive compensation. Try and find a solicitor who takes you seriously and walks you through the process in a calm, understandable manner.

Although personal injury cases can seem daunting, by following the right steps you should be able to maximise your compensation. By acting fast and working with a doctor and solicitors you should be in a strong position to receive fair compensation for your accident.
