Foods That Keep Your Teeth Healthy

Taking care of our teeth is essential for maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Unfortunately, many people don’t pay enough attention to their dental health and often forget that what we eat can have an effect on it as well.

This is especially true for starchy products and processed sugars that taste so good but are also very harmful in more ways than one, especially for your teeth. So in order to keep that beautiful smile and keep your teeth healthy, you have to eat healthy foods on a regular basis. Even if you decide to get the best dental Implants Burbank has to offer, the same rules apply as you need the right environment in your mouth regardless if you have natural teeth or implants.

That said, healthy mouth hygiene is sometime not enough to achieve that. In fact, you must give your body the nutrients it needs to properly maintain your teeth and keep bacteria way from your mouth the natural way. So with that in mind, here are some of the foods you should eat to keep your teeth as healthy as possible.

    Cheese and other dairy products

Cheese and other dairy products are a great source of protein, calcium, and other essential vitamins and minerals. The fact that cheese is low in sugar but very rich in calcium means that it's one of the best foods for your teeth. Cheese is also rich in casein, which is a helpful protein that contributes to fortifying tooth enamel, while calcium contributes to improving bone density.

So eating cheese makes your teeth stronger and less prone to developing cavities. But that's not all. Cheese also has rich stores of phosphate which is responsible for maintaining an ideal pH balance in your mouth, thus further preventing tooth decay. The same applies for milk and yogurt as well so it's of the utmost importance to take in a healthy amount of dairy products regularly and help your body take care of your teeth the best way possible.

    Fruits and veggies

You're already well-aware of the fact that fruits and veggies are very healthy and beneficial for your overall well-being. You can read a list of vitamins and minerals in fruits and vegetables pretty much anywhere online these days. However, knowing how essential nutrients found in some fruits and veggies affect your teeth is a completely different story.

So for example, folic acid found in leafy greens like spinach, kale and lettuce contribute to healthy teeth and gums. They also help clean your teeth when you chew on them. Moreover, an apple a day, keeps the doctor away but not your dentist, especially those juicy sugary apples. Fresh apples, however, can help a lot.

Simply by chewing hard fibrous skin of a fresh apple stimulates saliva production and washes away any citric and malic acids in your mouth. It also stimulates your gums, further preventing creation of cavities and tooth decay. Last but not least, vitamin C rich fruits like strawberries help whiten your teeth in the most natural of ways.

    Fatty fish and other meats

Fatty fish and other meats are a great source of protein, vitamins, minerals, and healthy fats. Aside from being vital for your overall well-being, meats and fatty fishes are great for your teeth although that may seem highly unlikely. Salmon for example, is quite fat and packed with phosphorus, which is an essential element for strengthening tooth enamel.

Red meat, on the other had, is chewy and chewing is good as it stimulates the production of saliva. The more saliva, the better as it helps wash away all the nasty things that are bad for your teeth. Not only that but chewing on red meat actually cleans your teet and any leftover food that may have gotten stuck between them.
