Many women are concerned about a number of their regular activities whilst being pregnant. Everything from your regular wax to walking down a flight of stairs is in question.

It isn’t unreasonable to think that being pregnant should cause you to need to avoid certain things, such as a Brazilian wax. Instead of speculating, let’s get into the facts that we can associate between these two factors.

    Take a look!

Time When You Definitely Should Not Get a Brazilian Wax While Pregnant

The one thing we can say for sure is that you shouldn’t get a Brazilian wax in the last month or so before the baby’s due date. During this time, your body is in overdrive even more than during the rest of your pregnancy. Because of this, your nerves and skin will be far more sensitive than usual.

A Brazilian wax may feel several times more painful as you come closer to your baby’s due date. Experiencing unnecessary pain could disrupt your baby, even in the smallest of ways. It simply isn’t worth the risk.

Possible Side Effects of Waxing While Pregnant

Other than the typical side effects of waxing, we have three main potential side effects. Let’s take a look at each of them:

The first one is bleeding. Your skin is much more sensitive during pregnancy to the point that getting waxed may cause you to bleed. Generally, this is only significant in the bikini-line area of your body. A little bit of blood isn’t a cause for alarm and your body may cause swelling to counteract the bleeding, which is good. However, if you find yourself bleeding for more than a few minutes, you should avoid any more waxing sessions until after you’ve given birth and recovered.

Another one is ingrown hair. After waxing, your hair starts growing back from the root. Again due to the sensitivity of your skin while pregnant, there is a chance that a couple of your hairs may become ingrown. (This is a risk for anyone who waxes but riskier still for pregnant women)

Finally, there is general pain. As your body is more sensitive, you will likely experience a higher level of pain when waxing. The effect of your hairs getting ripped off your body will likely cause more pain than you would be used to from a Brazilian waxing session.

Some of these side effects may occur while others may not. It depends on the individual pregnant woman. However, if you do experience any of these, it might be best for you to avoid waxing until after recovering from giving birth.

What You Can Do to be as Safe as Possible

The first and most important measure to take is to ensure your salon is perfectly clean. Obviously, you don’t want to be exposing yourself to any dirty, dusty environments while pregnant. (Or at all, for that matter)

Another thing to consider is using a pre-wax moisturizing cream. This cream will help keep your skin healthy and reduce the risk of the above side effects. Most salons will also offer a lotion to place after the waxing is complete. This may benefit you as well.

Check for any cuts, rashes, etc. If you have any, even if they aren’t directly on the area you plan to wax, wait until they have healed. The possibility of further exasperation to the area is too great a risk.

    At-Home Kits or Salon Waxing

In terms of safety for pregnant women, both at-home waxing kits and in-store salon waxing are equally safe. If you do choose to use an at-home waxing kit, you need to make sure you follow the same guidelines as we’ve mentioned above.

You still need to utilize the kit in a clean, sanitary environment. We don’t want any dirt or dust getting into your skin or giving you a rash, now do we? Make sure the tools you use are sterilized beforehand as well.

    Conclusion

Clearly, there are some concerns about pregnant women getting Brazilian waxes. Some side effects can cause you trouble. Thanks to these things, you should definitely be careful about getting waxed.

One thing is for sure. You should never get a Brazilian wax if you’re already eight months pregnant or more. As you approach this time, you should keep an eye on the mentioned side effects so that you don’t continue waxing when you shouldn’t be.

Overall, it is relatively safe to get a Brazilian wax while pregnant. You just need to make sure that you get it done safely and in a sterile environment.

The results will vary depending on the individual. Some pregnant women are more sensitive than others, causing them to be more likely to have side effects from Brazilian waxing. Pay attention to all the side effects and be sure to avoid getting a Brazilian wax if you notice any of them.
