How Long Do Porcelain Veneers Last

Cosmetic dentistry has given people a new hope by transforming their smiles. Be it stained misshapen teeth, you can now fix it all.

While there are several ways to get the smile of your dreams, porcelain veneers are by far crowd-favorite. And why not! They are quick, non-invasive, and can look 100% natural.

But before you head over to a cosmetic dentist to get porcelain veneers, it is best to know the details about them. Like how long will they actually last?

To find out, we contacted South Bay Prosthodontics to chat with their team of prosthodontists in Torrance, Ca who offer porcelain veneers.

What Are Dental Porcelain Veneers, Exactly?

Porcelain veneers are cosmetic enhancements used to enhance the appearance of your front teeth. They are made of porcelain and can be placed on top of tooth enamel with the help of special bonding glue.

The dentist will first take a mold of your tooth that needs porcelain veneer and then send it to a special laboratory that customizes the veneers based on the mold. It can take a couple of weeks for the veneers to be ready so you may need 2 or more sittings.

But the good thing is you can get as many veneers as you like during the same sitting so no more going back and forth to the dentist’s office. In the first sitting, the mold is taken and a light layer of the enamel is shaved off to make room for the veneers. A temporary veneer is then attached to protect the enamel.

Then once the veneers are ready, it is cemented into place with the help of bonding glue.

Finally, a few polishing touches are made to ensure your veneers blend well and sit comfortably in your mouth.

How Long Do Porcelain Veneers Last?

First and foremost, porcelain veneers are not a permanent fix. Porcelain veneers typically last between 5-10 years with good oral hygiene and home care.

The life of dental veneers depends on how well they are taken care of. Grinding teeth at night (bruxism), using your teeth to break stuff, and clenching the jaw (temporomandibular joint disorder) can all quicken the degradation of porcelain veneers.

If you brush your teeth twice a day, floss once a day, and eat healthy foods, they can last anywhere from 10-15 years, maybe more. However, if you don’t take care of them properly, they may start to chip or peel after two or three years.

So it is of utmost importance to follow your dentist's instructions and practice good oral hygiene to make your veneers last for a long time.

    Should You Get Porcelain Veneers?

Porcelain veneers are hand down one of the best ways to get a brighter, even shaped smile. Whether you have chipped or broken teeth, teeth gaps, or discoloration, porcelain veneers can fix it all.

If you need more information about porcelain veneers in Torrance, Ca you can head over to South Bay Prosthodontics for an export opinion. They will examine your teeth and understand your aesthetic expectations before suggesting to you the right way to get a beautiful, healthy smile. So call their office today or visit their website if you are in Torrance to get high-quality porcelain dental veneers for your teeth.
