We all know that good oral hygiene is mandatory to keep your teeth and gums in top condition. Although we all know what we need to do for healthy teeth, such as brushing them twice a day, flossing them before going to bed, and visiting the dentist at least twice a year – we ignore the basics and continue living our lives as if a good smile and healthy teeth don’t matter at all.

That said, let us talk about how to keep our teeth in healthy conditions. Remember that it is not only white sparkling teeth that matter. Your gums and overall oral hygiene play an equally crucial role in contributing to your oral health.

What happens if you ignore your teeth?

If you ignore your teeth health and don’t go to the dentist for treatment, your teeth and gums will get into a worse condition, starting from tooth decay, which can then culminate into serious gum inflammation, and tooth loss. Subsequently, your confidence level will drop as you will avoid smiling and participating in group conversations due to an ugly smile.

Tooth decay and tooth loss can also lead to malnutrition and challenges in effectively communicating with your co-workers, friends, and family. The good news is that all of this can be prevented by visiting the dentist regularly and maintaining good dental and oral hygiene. The below-given list includes some essential practices that ensure to keep your teeth and gums in top condition.

    Brush Your Teeth Regularly

Don’t start rolling your eyes yet. When we say that you ought to brush your teeth regularly, we mean that you need to do it the right way. Instead of brushing hard against the surface of your teeth, be gentle and induce the right circular movements while brushing your teeth.

By incorporating the right brushing technique, you ensure that your teeth and gums remain safe from bacteria and plaque. Play your favorite song while brushing your teeth so that you don’t rush through the brushing procedure.

Don’t Ignore to Floss Your Teeth

Many people don’t take flossing seriously. They might know that flossing is essential but keep it reserved for special occasions only. This is one of the greatest mistakes that someone can make who is serious about their dental health.

As you floss your teeth, you can get between the tiniest spaces where it is impossible to reach with your toothbrush. Therefore, make sure to brush twice a day and floss your teeth at least once a day, preferably before bedtime.

    Refrain From Smoking

We all know that smoking kills since it is dangerous to health. Not only does smoking affect the inner organs of your body and your lifestyle, such as your lungs, and causing you to develop a nicotine addiction. But, smoking is also bad for your teeth and oral health.

Smoking increases the risks of developing certain gum diseases, including cancer. You might have heard the instance where people reported a harder time healing after some dental procedures due to smoking. Smoking also caused yellow teeth and a bad mouth odor.

    Visit The Dentist

This is no rocket science – you need to visit your dentist at least once every six months. By visiting the dentist, you will not only keep your teeth and gums in top condition. It will also ensure that any underlying and hidden gum and teeth-related diseases get detected in time and treated accordingly.

The dentist ensures to conduct all mandatory assessments, including X-ray, to ensure that everything is fine. That said, take the advice seriously and keep paying your dentist regularly scheduled visits. This is effective in keeping your smile bright and sparkly.
