Over time, the gadgets, tools, and devices keeping tabs on health and fitness have transformed into different types of wearables beyond smartwatches. The CES 2023 event highlighted the enduring popularity of health tracking, showcasing its evolution.

Among the innovations, ITRI's iSportWear introduces wearable fitness products that monitor health metrics, aid in injury prevention, and correct posture.

Also, Movano Health unveiled Evie, a smart ring tailored for women seeking to monitor their health data. This article will explore Movano Health’s Evie Ring, shedding light on its role in advancing health wearables and trackers at CES and beyond. Keep reading to find out all there is to know about Evie Ring.

    About Evie Smart Ring

Evie Ring is a smart ring designed for women’s health developed by Movano Health, a Nasdaq company: MOVE. One of the amazing things about the Evie smart ring is that it has trusted and personalized health information for every woman at every stage.

Created with a focus on women's well-being, the recently launched Evie Ring by Movano Health offers a range of health-monitoring functions in a discreet device that fits on any finger. The Evie Ring showcased its capabilities at CES 2024 and secured a place in CNET's top picks.

Evie effortlessly monitors your sleep, heart rate, blood oxygen levels, and steps. You can input information about your exercises and record your energy levels and menstrual cycle manually. The way it analyzes data aims to present the findings in a more personalized manner.

With Movano Health's Evie smart ring, women can monitor their well-being and handle their menstrual health efficiently and effectively. Evie offers users high-quality health information, which is later transformed into personalized insights through its mobile app.

The Evie ring covers various health and wellness measures like resting heart rate, heart rate variability, respiration rate, skin temperature variability, period and ovulation tracking, menstrual symptom monitoring, daily steps, active minutes, sleep, and mood tracking. This proves helpful for both users and doctors looking for additional details about their patient's health.

What about the Cons of the Evie Smart Ring? Does Movano Health’s Evie Ring have any Disadvantages that No One is Telling You?

The Evie ring is not compatible with Android devices, as the Evie ring and paired mobile app are compatible with only iOS at the moment, although the company has plans to support Android in the future.

Another thing to note about the Evie ring is regarding its FDA approval, but I won’t really term this as a disadvantage, but just a slight delay in Evie’s development and inauguration. It seems Movano’s Evie smart ring hasn't technically received FDA approval yet for all its initially brought up or speculated features; or should I say they haven’t received FDA clearance on the features they had to incorporate for/in the Evie ring.

In the summer of 2023, the company applied for 510(k) clearance for blood oxygen and heart rate, and they're currently in the process of addressing concerns through back-and-forth communication. However, this doesn't mean the Evie didn’t launch without any features.

Matt Bevenour, a spokesperson for Movano, explains that FDA clearance is mainly to assure users that the Evie Ring meets the regulator’s standards for accuracy. Once clearance is granted, Movano plans to shift from a wellness device to a medical one.

Salvi expresses optimism about the progress, stating, "It’s going really well. We’re in communication with the FDA, and we’re looking forward to getting that cleared." She adds that, so far, the ring has surpassed FDA standards in testing.

Salvi emphasizes the medical focus of the company, highlighting Movano CEO John Mastrototaro’s background in contributing to the creation of the first continuous glucose monitor. Additionally, she mentions that obtaining clearance opens up future business opportunities as the line between wearables and medical devices becomes less distinct.

Where and How to Get Evie Smart Ring

Although the Evie smart ring is not the first health-tracking ring on the market, it's seeking to make wearables that track health more accessible by removing the need for purchasing it via subscription like its competitor, the Oura ring, does. Just go to the official website of the gadget to buy the Evie ring.

How Much is the Evie Smart Ring?

Evie smart ring is available at their official website for $269. Just follow the link to go and buy the Evie ring if you need it.

Movano Health’s Evie Smart Ring Review - Read What CNET Wellness Writers Bridget Carey and Jessica Rendall Wrote About the Evie Smart Ring on CNET After Testing the Evie Smart Ring

Evie Smart Ring Review - Healthsoothe.comTo figure out how the Evie smart ring works, I tried it out in a real-life situation: I wore it while covering CES. CES is a huge tech event, so my days involved a lot of running around different conference centers and taking a ton of steps.

Then, there's the constant handshaking, which means a fair amount of hand-cleaning too. Additionally, I flew from the East Coast to Las Vegas, so I had the chance to witness my not-so-great hotel room sleep.

Because Evie's data and results are meant for individual wearers, a rough day for me might look different than a rough day for you. It keeps track of patterns over time to help you achieve better health goals. This might involve logging your periods or letting the app know when you're not feeling well. It helps you notice trends in your activity and gives suggestions accordingly.

I got a demo of Evie on the show floor, and connecting it to my phone was really quick. I was genuinely impressed right away. It looks like regular jewelry with a neat arrow design that resembles a K. The only giveaway that it's tech is the occasional blinking light from the biometric sensors on the inside of the band.

I haven't used Evie long enough to get all the data and feedback into the app. Trying it out during CES was a good way to test some of its promised features. One significant aspect is step counting; there's a lot of walking at CES. On the opening day, Evie tracked me at 18,000 steps, so it definitely wasn't missing any count. Interestingly, this was 3,000 steps more than what my Apple Watch recorded.

It's tricky to figure out exactly how accurate the ring is, but it's keeping pace with my steps. Plus, it's really comfy. I had it sized before the show, and wearing it doesn't bother me at all. I can put it on any finger, and it gives the same reading if I need to switch it for any reason.

At CES, you meet so many people that it's easy to catch something, so I'm always using hand sanitizer and washing up. Evie held up well; it didn't feel any different than wearing other rings, and I didn't have to fuss with it to dry it or anything. Honestly, there's no time for that here, so it was good that it wasn't a problem.

Sleep tracking is interesting. My sleep during this trip was just bad. With the time change, I kept waking up at weird times, and the ring tracked all those moments through the night. I usually wear an Apple Watch, but I don't normally track my sleep with it because I end up charging the watch while I sleep.

According to the company, Evie's battery should last several days before needing a charge, so you can just wear it without worrying. I charged it at the start of the show, and three days later, it was at 59%. Charging is quick and easy: you put it in a case like earbuds, and it snaps in magnetically.

One of my favorite parts of using Evie is how unobtrusive it is. I like how you can just track your health with nothing to think about. There's no screen to ping you, just data when you want to see it inside the app.

On the paired app, you'll get a personalized daily summary based on activity, steps, calories, sleep, and mood. What's more, Movano said in a press release that its ring has sensors that are optimized for vital sign measurements on women's fingers, which can be different in size and blood flow than men's, and fluctuate based on hormonal factors.

The ring costs $269, and unlike Oura, there's no additional membership or service fee. I would need to live with it longer for a full review but for now, Evie held up through the tech-journalist gauntlet of CES. Plus, it looks cute.

Evie can be ordered now in three finishes (silver, gold, and rose gold) and is expected to start shipping later this month. The ring and paired mobile app are compatible with only iOS at the moment, although the company has plans to support Android soon.
