Your beauty regimen changes once you become pregnant, but most women don’t think about what this means for the products they use, like body wash.

Dove body wash contains NutriumMoisture technology and NutriumMoisture capsules that moisturise your skin and help it retain moisture so that it stays hydrated, smooth, and soft all day long.

However, the ingredients in Dove body wash may cause harm to your baby if used during pregnancy.

Read on to learn more about how you can make sure your beauty routine stays safe throughout your pregnancy.

    What Is Dove Body Wash

Dove body wash is a specially formulated wash that includes Dove’s signature ingredient, NutriumMoisture.

The body wash is hypoallergenic and dermatologist tested. It comes in 4 scents to suit your preference.

    • Cucumber & Green Tea
    • Coconut Milk & Orchid Extract
    • Nourishing Almond Milk; and
    • Honey and Sweet Cream Moisturizing Silk

This product can be used on a daily basis for soft and smooth skin.

The body wash is free of parabens, sodium lauryl sulfate and animal testing; it is also enriched with nourishing vitamins that are safe for everyday use when pregnant or breastfeeding.

Some doctors also recommend using Dove body wash in pregnancy due to its hypoallergenic properties.

Can You Use Dove Body Wash When Pregnant?

Yes, you can use Dove body wash during pregnancy.

However, you should consult your doctor before using any new products during pregnancy.

Allergic reactions can occur while pregnant so it is important to check if you have any known allergies before trying out new products.

In addition, some ingredients found in most personal care products may increase sensitivity during pregnancy.

Therefore it is advisable to avoid them as much as possible while pregnant.

For example, many hair care products contain fragrances which can cause an allergic reaction such as itching or rashes on sensitive areas like your face and neck.

    Why does this matter?

Having a child is an experience of a lifetime. One moment you're preparing for Mother's Day and then, in an instant, you're thrown into an entirely new world as a mother.

What you ingest or come into contact with on daily basis matters more than ever.

Be extra cautious when choosing beauty products like lotions, soaps and shampoos that are safe during pregnancy.

Some ingredients can have adverse effects on your baby even before it is born!

Therefore, it's crucial that expectant mothers become informed about which products may be dangerous for their unborn child and avoid using them at all costs.

Are there harmful ingredients in Dove body wash?

There are a few ingredients in Dove body wash that can you may react to negatively when used during pregnancy.

It's best to use natural soaps instead of chemically produced body wash when pregnant, particularly if you're sensitive to specific ingredients.

Let's take a look at these substances and others commonly found in Dove products:

    1. Alcohol denatured: This chemical is added as a scent, but it can irritate your skin and cause redness, swelling and burning sensations.

    2. Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLS): A foaming agent that can change your skin pH level, making it harder for your body to fight off bacteria or viruses.

    3. Cocamide DEA: An artificial ingredient used as an emulsifier, adding texture and lather in shampoos and bath products.

During pregnancy, it's absorbed into your bloodstream easily since there aren't any barriers such as your skin or mucous membranes to prevent absorption and prolonged exposure may lead to muscle disorders like Juvenile Parkinsonism disease later on.

How much should I worry about Dove Body Wash?

There’s a lot of conflicting information out there, but most dermatologists agree that any concern with body wash is pretty overblown.

Most people use an unscented body wash or something specifically labelled non-toxic or safe for pregnant women.

Personally, I used Dove Body Wash when I was pregnant and everything turned out fine. It can be hard to find pregnancy-safe options in some places (I had a hard time finding them locally).

So I recommend checking with your doctor first before using any products if you're worried about potential issues.

You'll also want to avoid ingredients like essential oils, which have been known to cause problems during pregnancy.

You should also try to stay away from products with harsh chemicals and those marked as irritants on ingredient lists since these could potentially cause allergic reactions on sensitive skin.

Take note: If you don't know what's in a product then don't use it!

Even though Dove Body Wash is considered safe for pregnant women by most doctors, keep in mind that not all doctors are right all the time, so err on the side of caution until you know more about what's really going on.

Conclusions and future research on Dove Body Wash

It is widely known that prenatal exposure to a number of products can have negative consequences on fetal development, and body wash has been identified as a risk factor for miscarriage.

The use of Dove body wash during pregnancy should be avoided if you easily react to chemically produced soaps until further research confirms its safety.

However, you can buy any naturally produced soap. Especially the one recommended by your doctor, he'll have a good reason for choosing it.
