While a change is scary, it also means freedom, as it releases you from the grip of alcohol. Therefore, this life-changing step is a move you will never regret. You will discover why you should make rehab a part of your life’s journey.

     1. Addiction is Not a Weakness - It’s a Disease

Some people are more prone to alcohol addiction than others.

    Do you know why?

It is not because they are weak. Alcohol addiction is considered a chronic illness. Anyone who assumes otherwise is wrong. While you may have chosen to drink, a dependency on alcohol grows over time.

That is because drinking alcohol for a long time alters your brain’s chemistry. It affects the part of the brain's reward center, thereby drawing you to use the substance more and more. When you don’t drink, it affects your mood and therefore makes you feel anxious or depressed.

Also, your DNA plays a part in alcohol addiction. Current data from the National Institute on Drug Abuse, or NIDA, confirms that about 50% of addiction problems are attributed to a person’s genetic makeup. Environmental influences and who you associate also impact alcohol use.

     2. An Addiction Is Not a Lifestyle Choice

Because addiction is not a lifestyle choice, you need to enter rehab so you can change your quality of life. While some people may wrongly assume that an addict’s way of life is due to moral ineptitude, the opposite is true. An addiction, just like any other disease, cannot be helped unless the user takes measures to help themselves.

To begin the process, you need to ask, “Where can I find an alcohol rehab near me?” Insurance plans pay for many rehab programs. Therefore, how can anyone define an alcohol problem as a lifestyle?

     3. An Alcohol Addiction Affects Those You Love

If you have a drinking problem, it also affects your loved ones. Therefore, don’t feel embarrassed or ashamed about entering rehab. You are showing the utmost care by taking this step, as it will help relieve the emotional burden placed on your family.

It will also give you a chance to regroup and change your thinking, so it does not trigger future use. Counseling is provided after detox so you can get back on track and meet your daily living goals and professional obligations.

     4. Alcohol Use Endangers Your Health

An alcohol dependency can endanger your health and well-being. Therefore, you should feel no shame about entering a substance abuse program, going through detox, and improving your health and nutrition. Long-term use of alcohol can damage the liver and lead to other illnesses such as stroke, heart disease, cancer, high blood pressure, and digestive disturbances.

    You Need Medical Intervention Now

Also, remember, you cannot overcome an alcohol addiction alone. You need medical supervision to ease you through withdrawal. Going “cold turkey” is a dangerous undertaking.

Therefore, take the initiative now. Find out more about drug rehab so you can free yourself of your dependency now.
