In the same way that melanin colors the skin, it also determines hair, colour. The less melanin, the lighter the hair. As each hair loses his melanin pigment, it gradually turn gray,  then white. It is assumed that the age at which hair begins to gray is an inherited characteristics and therefore can't be postponed or prevented by
eating special foods, by taking vitamins, or by the external application of creams. The only way to recolor gray hair is by the use of a chemical dye.

DYES AND TINTS : Anyone wishing to make a radical change in hair coior should consult a trained and reliable hairdresser. Trying to turn black hair bright red or dark red hair to blonde with a home preparation can sometimes end up with unwanted purplish or greenish results. When tints or dyes are used at home to lighten or darken the hair color by one or two shades, instructions
accompanying the product must be followed carefully. Anyone with a tendency to  contact dermatitis should make a patch test on the skin to check on possible allergic reactions. Hair should be
tinted or dyed no more often that once a month.

DYE STRIPPING : The only safe way to get rid of an unwanted dye colour that has been used on the hair is to let it grow out. The technique known as stripping takes all color from the hair
and reduces it to a dangerously weak mass. It is then redyed its natural color. Such a procedure should never be undertaken by anyone except a trained beautician, if at all.
BLEACHING : Hydrogen peroxide is mixed with a hair-lightener to
prebleach hair before applying blond tints. Bleaching with peroxide alone can cause more damage to the hair
than dyeing or tinting it with a reliable commercial preparation,
because it causes dryness, brittlenesss, and breakage.

     General Hair Care

Properly cared for hair usually looks clean, shiny, and alive. Unfortunately, too many people mask the natural good looks of their hair with unnecessary sprays and"beauty preparations.

WASHING THE HAIR : Hair should be washed about once a week more often if it tends to be oily. The claims made by shampoo manufacturers need not always be taken too seriously, since most shampoos contain nothing more than soap or detergent and a perfuming agent. No shampoo can restore the natural oils to the hair at the same time that it washes it. A castile shampoo is good for dry hair, and one containing tincture of green soap is good for oily hair.
Thorough rinsing is essential to eliminate any soap deposit. If the local water is hard, a detergent shampoo can be rinsed off more
easily than one containing soap.
DRYING THE HAIR : Drying the hair in sunlight or under a
heat controlled dryer is more satisfactory than trying to rub it dry with a towel. Gentle brushing during drying reactivates the natural oils that give hair its shine. Brushing in general is excellent for the appearance of the hair. Be sure to wash both brush and comb as often as the hair is washed. Hair pomades should be avoided
or used sparingly, since they are sometimes so heavy that they clog
the pores of the scalp. A little bit of olive oil or baby oil can be rubbed into dry hair after shampooing. This is also good for babies'hair.
There is no scientific evidence that creme rinses, protein rinses, Or beer rinses accomplish anything for the hair other than making it what more manageable if it is naturally fine and flyaway.
